Download dropline GNOME Now!

  • 1. Before you do anything else, you should also verify that you meet the suggested requirements before installation. It is also suggested that you read the following thread that details the packages that are replaced on a stock Slackware system:
    http://forums.droplinegnome.org/viewtopic.php?t=5914.
  • It is also *HIGHLY* suggested that you begin with a clean installation of Slackware 12.2 or Slamd64-12.2. Upgrades from previous versions of Slackware/Slamd64 are discouraged. More often than not, users have mis-upgraded systems, stale configuration files, and conflicting libraries from previous software that they’ve installed. It is impossible for us to help diagnose issues related to improper Slackware/Slamd64 installations.

  • 2. If everything checks out, you are ready to download the dropline Installer for i686 Slackware 12.2 or dropline Installer for x86_64 Slamd64-12.2. This is a small curses based interface that will allow you to install dropline GNOME, and keep your installation of GNOME up to date. All of the dropline GNOME packages are built in Slackware’s standard TGZ format, and the dropline-installer simply acts as a front-end to Slackware’s own pkgtools.
  • 3. Once you’ve done this, you need to pick how you’re going to obtain the packages that make up the core of dropline GNOME itself.
    • Internet
This is the preferred method of getting packages and updates in dropline GNOME. After downloading the installer, execute the following commands as root:

      # installpkg dropline-installer-2.26.0a-i686-1dl.tgz
      # dropline-installer

Use the menus to select your installation style, and the the Installer will download the packages from SourceForge and handle the rest. Please note that a Full Install is the suggested method, as it’s the best way to guarantee that all things will function as designed.

If you choose to install from your hard disk, ensure you have already downloaded all of the dropline GNOME packages and have them stored in your preferred dropline download directory–by default, this is /var/cache/dropline-installer.

    • Updates to dropline GNOME are made regularly and can be automatically downloaded and installed by typing the same command and selecting “Upgrade” from the menu. A convenient applet is available on the desktop, by default, to notify users when security and bugfix updates are available.
